Description

Serious mountain climbs demand well-designed, well-constructed kit. Developed in conjunction with Montane’s lead athlete and big wall climber Andy Kirkpatrick, leading British mountain guides and outdoor activists, the Fast Alpine 40 exudes functionality. The Fast Alpine 40 is designed to carry heavy climbing equipment to the base of a route and can compress down tightly when relatively empty. It works perfectly in conjunction with a technical climbing harness and is robust enough to cope with contact against abrasive rock surfaces. Most importantly, it is comfortable on long routes when dynamic climbing manoeuvres are required.

I have had this for a bit over a year and it has been to the summer Alps, carrying day kit (personal kit as well as spares for group(food and warm layers)) and overnight kit, but only for huts (liner sleeping bag). I have also used it for overnight camps in Scotland in Summer, with day kit, sleeping bag, rollmat, brew kit, food and thermos all inside, except the 2 man tent that was strapped outside. I have also used in Scotland for Winter day walks, with space inside for usual summer day kit + warm layers and crampons, axe was on outside. Its a great, capable bag, I came to this from an Osprey Mutant 38, which I loved too, but fancied a change and am a real Montane convert. I prefer the compression straps on this compared to the Osprey. If you want something lighter, with less frills, consider the Alpine Featherlite Alpine 35, less weight carrying capacity and less padding, but very capable and well spec'd too.

So far used for a weeks Scottish winter mountaineering and carrying kit to trad rock climbing venues. Comfortable, easy to use with gloves on and seems durable. Very pleased I chose it.
