In 1956 the company moved to Lawrence in the Merrimack Valley, MA for innovation. In 1981 Polartec invented a revolutionary new fabric - synthetic fleece. Named one of the 20th century’s greatest innovations by Time Magazine, this fabric would turn outdoor dressing on its head.

Since then Polartec has become a continual source of game changing, category creating inventions:

Polartec’s ethos is one of ambition: ‘Where the impossible is made possible’ being one of the principle drivers of the company. Polartec's mission is to invent fabrics with characteristics never seen before, create materials that perform at levels greater than anyone ever imagined and to remake entire industries by redefining what is worn in the outdoors.
