The DWR (Durable Water Repellent) chemical treatments we use on our products include the use of PFCs (Per-fluorinated compounds) due to their superior water and oil repellency ensuring waterproofness.
As we became aware of the potential negative impacts of PFCs, we moved our DWR treatments away from the longer chain ‘C8’ chemistry to short chain ‘C6’ chemistry allowing us to eliminate the by-products highlighted as being of the greatest concern, this is only part of the solution and the journey continues to become PFC free by 2023 without reducing the performance of quality of the products we produce.
We continue to work in partnership with our fabric suppliers to develop PFC-free options; this includes working with world – renowned partners such as W.L. Gore who have invested over $15 million in developing alternative solutions to solve the problems.
In Autumn Winter 2016, we became one of the first brands in the world to fully implement a PFC-free down range using Allied Feather & Down’s new HyperDRY ECO. This uses PFC-free water resistant down as well as carrying the Responsible Down Standard (RDS) ensuring the birds welfare throughout the supply chain. We also extensively use PRIMALOFT synthetic insulation in our range which is also PFC-free.
