I am partial to softshells for cycling, and wanted a softshell that I could wear when off the bike. I live in Madrid and cycle every day to work. It's a short commute and conditions here are not as extreme as in the UK, but we do get sleet, snow and rain on occassion. The forecasts and the thermometers in the street have hit 0-3 degrees Celsius more than once already this autumn. I wear a cotton T shirt under this jacket and I will be just fine (mind you, I run hot and I really push it when on the bike) It's got long enough arms to use in a road bike. It's got some good pockets, and the hood is great. I can wear the hood over the cycling helmet, so I think you can wear it over a mountaneering helmet too. It is windproof but lets a tiny bit of air through, just enough that I don't miss pit zips. I have had all types of rain and snow fall on me with this jacket. Water will bead off if it is just a drizzle, and it will keep me dry for my commute unless it is a torrential downpour. I have also used it for hiking, and I am happy to wear it around town. Have I mentioned that I love this jacket?

This jacket has a nice feel and packs small - very good as a windproof layer providing a little bit or warmth, too. Good provision of pockets in the chest and sides. I found the fit a bit strange; long in the arms, but short in the body. Also maybe a little tight under the arms for my liking - I can imagine this making it a bit sweaty given that there are no underarm zips.
