Nestled in the wild and beautiful Lakeland countryside, the Keswick Mountain Festival has grown over the years to become one of the nations leading outdoor festivals.  With a spectrum of races, challenges, and engaging talks from some of the most intrepid adventurers of our age, the KMF ensures people of all ages and disciplines are inspired to enjoy the Great Outdoors.

This year, Montane have teamed with our partners the BMC to provide a full schedule of exciting outdoor themed films, talks, and lectures from the famous BMC Skills Tent.  Featuring famous Montane athletes and equipment technicians - not to mention the most entertaining mountain-based Pub Quiz you've ever had in a tepee - there promises to be something for everyone.

Ultra Running at the Highest Level with marcus Scotney, at the BMC and Montane Skills Tent | Keswick Mountain Festival


Marcus is man that knows a thing or two about running in the mountains and is one of the highest profile and recognisable ultra-trail runners in the UK, despite only entering the world of ultra distance running in 2008.

His meteoric rise has seen him represent England and Great Britain numerous times across a range of disciplines, as well as winning the inaugural Cape Wrath Ultra in Scotland followed by the epic Dragon’s Back race in Wales.

Award-winning filmmaker Terry Abraham and record-breaking mountaineer Alan Hinkes OBE will be on hand to talk high altitude adventures and show footage from their latest films.

Navigation is the key to adventure. If you can navigate well, you can enjoy a goodwalk anywhere! It’s a fun skill with some very simple principles, and this practical session is the perfect introduction. Suitable for beginners or improvers. Provided by Mountain Training.

Watch Mary-Ann tackle the infamous Inaccessible Pinnacle, "where walking, climbing and mountaineering meet", on the Cuillin Ridge. After the film, join Mary-Ann for a talk and QnA to hear more about her Inaccessible Pinnacle adventure. 

15:30 Tales and Films from the Mountains with Alan Hinkes and Terry Abraham

Join Alan Hinkes (the only Briton to have climbed all fourteen 8000m peaks) and Terry Abraham (award winning outdoors filmmaker and photographer) for an hour of tall tales and fun films from the mountains. The duo will talk high altitude adventures and show footage from their latest films.  Followed by a QnA.

Back again for 2018. Join us for an hour of beer and banter as the BMC & Montane skills camp transforms into your local pub. Set to be released this October, Waymaking is an anthology of women’s adventure writing, poetry and art. Hear readings from Waymaking contributors Polly Atkin (poet), Judith Brown (writer, climber and mountaineer) and Kathleen Jones (poet, biographer and novelist), before the trio move on to discuss their own adventures.
