Versatility is its own Specialism

The Montane Terra Pants have once again been awarded ‘The Great Outdoors Magazine’s ‘Best Buy’ Rosette. Terra pants have been around for a while, but remain everyone’s go-to outdoor pant. We catch up with our product design and athlete teams to find out why.

Since their introduction in 2001, the Terra Pants have been the mainstay outdoor pant for anyone wanting to do pretty much anything outdoors due to a comprehensive feature set.

Their manifold construction, comprising of lightweight and breathable main fabric with durable reinforcement panels produces a low weight and small pack size with fast-drying properties. Intuitive features such as thigh vents and versatile, active cut enhance these passive technologies.

What this results in is a very versatile and hardwearing lightweight mountain pant.

WHAT ‘THE GREAT OUTDOORS’ MAGAZINE SAYS:

Terra Pants have been a favourite of reviewer Chris Townsend for well over a decade, and he has awarded them the ‘Best Buy’ Rosette before:

“The Terra Pants are lightweight and roll up small for carrying. For three-season hillwalking and backpacking the Terra Pants are excellent. I can’t fault them.”

WHAT THE DESIGNER SAYS:

Keith Cheung has been Montane’s Senior Men’s Designer for almost 8 years, and has been actively involved in the Terras’ development for this time:

“The secret to the terra pants success is the balance of its features; the fabric is weatherproof, but still light enough to breath well and dry quickly. Its reinforcements just cover the hard-wearing areas, keeping bulk down. The cut allows for dynamic movement without the need for a stretch-fabric, which keeps them comfortable. Little wonder you are just as likely to see them at your local crag as at the top of Helvellyn.”

WHAT THE ATHLETE SAYS:

Franco Cookson is a prolific rock climber and guidebook writer. He has a reputation for boldness, with his hardest lines providing some of the scariest pitches to be found anywhere:

“Climbing makes huge demands of kit, particularly trousers. Equipment needs to be light, massively durable, keep you warm when it’s cold and cool when it’s hot. The Terra Pants are a bombproof bit of kit that allow you to trudge up a hot mountainside just as well as they allow you to get your foot above your head on an athletic rockover in a gale-force wind. The positioning of the reinforced points is expertly done, promising years of heavy use. “
