The Alpha Balance Jackets‘ unusual construction is the first thing that stood out to the CLIMBER reviewers, with Polartec’s Alpha Direct across the chest, shoulders and upper arms and covered by Featurelite Air nylon stretch overlay contrasting pleasingly with Pontetorto Technostretch on the arms and abdomen.  This mix of fabrics also fulfill a purpose, and the visual disparity highlights the garment’s technical credibility.  The Alpha Direct holds warmth around the wearers’ core, whilst the Technostretch allows for freedom of movement – it has a soft inner face but its outer is abrasion resistant, improving durability.

“Overall, the Alpha Balance is a well-designed jacket; the dearest in the line-up but arguably the best specified and warmest, albeit a shade heavier than most.”

The Alpha Balance was recognised as more than just clever fabrics and passive technologies; its intuitively placed pockets were highlighted for their ‘considerable carrying capacity’ and the snug-fit, helmet compatible hood was also highlighted.
