TOR DES GEANTS REPORT: DAY 0
Today marks the beginning of the 2018 Montane Tor des Géants. With the main race beginning tomorrow, athletes register, and enjoy their final few moments of civilisation before undertaking the beatiful and brutal TOR 2018.
The first official day of the 2018 Montane Tor des Géants kicked off in Courmayeur in near festival-like atmosphere, with nerves and excitement high for athletes and organisers alike.
Registration went smoothly thanks to the VolunTORs (the real unsung heroes of the TOR), with athletes picking up race bibs and undergoing important equipment checks. The VIP Athletes parade – featuring many Team Montane Athletes – was followed by the now famous Tor des Géants pasta party. Concluding the festivities was the final briefing, giving athletes and support staff up-to-date knowledge on any last minute route – and weather – changes.
The end to the first of many exciting days in the Italian Alps. The weather is promising to be hot at lower altitudes for at least the first few days, adding potential stress to athletes as they begin the first of many gruelling alpine climbs.
