Jon Gupta to tackle Montane Yukon Arctic Ultra
In the frozen Canadian wilderness of the Yukon at 10:30am (Yukon time) Thursday 4 February 2016, 84 intrepid racers will cross the start line of the world’s toughest and coldest ultra race, the Montane Yukon Arctic Ultra.
Categories this year include marathon distance, 100 and 300 mile races.
Jon Gupta from Bristol and one of Montane’s long-standing athletes will take part in the 300 mile race on foot. It is the first time he has participated in a race like this; he is usually to be found in the Himalayan mountains, tackling the big 8000m peaks or pushing himself on a similar wild mountaineering or ski-mountaineering adventure.
Jon said of his entry in the ultra: ‘After months of preparation & planning the time is finally here to race the Montane Yukon Arctic Ultra. This will most likely be the single hardest thing I have ever done to date – so yes I am slightly bricking it – however, I am super excited about what the next two weeks will bring’.
You can track Jon’s progress here once the race begins (Jon is race number 304).
