As part of Montane’s commitment to develop outstanding clothing and equipment for the mountains, our product development programme has expanded to include a test team selected from members of Montane’s brand partner the British Association of International Mountain Leaders (BAIML).
International Mountain Leaders are based all over Europe and travel the world with their clients to experience the challenges of mountainous environments. Each will put a selection of Montane gear through rigorous and extended use and will use their expertise and experience of the products to provide detailed feedback to the Montane design team.
BAIML represents the UK at UIMLA, the Union of International Mountain Leader Associations, which is the international governing body for International Mountain Leaders. BAIML works closely with UIMLA to develop and promote a worldwide standard for training and assessment. Their members have undergone an intense assessment process to gain their qualifications and continue to maintain their professional development throughout their careers. Many of their members hold multiple qualifications and work in a variety of areas across the world.

A fully-fledged International Mountain Leader and BASI Nordic Ski Teacher, Julia spends most of her time in the Alps and Scandinavia, with Chamonix typically serving as base of operations. She guides and organises snowshoeing and cross-country tours in the winter, and trail running and walking holidays in the summer. Each season always has time allocated to research new trips, both for work and to satisfy her own desire for adventure.
'As a mountain professional, quality equipment and clothing is an essential part of the job. MONTANE products are highly regarded in terms of design and performance over a broad range of mountain activities. I'm delighted to be working with MONTANE as an Ambassador and to be involved with the development of their brand!'

'The kit i use needs to be super versatile and hard wearing because i could be out running on my local fells with my collie on a Monday, teaching navigation in the Dales on Wednesday, and using the same kit on Friday in the High Atlas. MONTANE offers that.'
After a 16 year career in the Army, Stuart now works full time in the outdoors, conducting Outdoor Learning Days, Expeditions in the UK & Overseas, Residentials, and delivery of Mountain Training NGB Award Courses.
