The MONTANE® Kielder 100 is Britain's first 100 mile, single lap, off-road mountain bike race. That's right, 100 miles, not those tiny little kilometres!
One lap of a specially designed 100 mile endurance mountain bike race course with just one road crossing, some fire roads, some grass tracks and a surprising amount of challenging, technical singletrack. This is not a race for the faint hearted or the unfit, just speak to anyone who has ridden in previous years' races.
Since its launch in 2008 this ground breaking enduro event has gained legendary status, receiving a rapturous welcome and support by riders keen to find that next mountain biking 'high'. A high that only events such as the MONTANE ® Kielder 100 can give them. It is the vision of Sara Randle and Paul Davis of SIP events and is the first 100 mile complete loop Mountain Bike Race in Europe and one of the leading endurance Mountain Bike races in the UK. Dedicated to create an endurance riding event that takes mountain bike riding to the limit, most concede they have certainly done that. Ask anyone in the crowd of the MONTANE ® Kielder 100 riders at the awards ceremony that evening. "Brutally delicious" said one, "I'll be back for more pain!" said another.
The race begins at the picturesque Kielder Castle, Northumberland, sweeps through the spectacular Kielder forest and ushers riders across the border into Scotland to the roar of bagpipes. Utilising the trails of the 7Stanes trail centre, Newcastleton, riders battle inclement weather, twisty tracks and each other before returning to finish again at Kielder Castle. There are four check points around the course.
