Backpack Designer & Developer

Montane is recruiting for the position of Backpack Designer & Developer to join our busy Product Department. The ideal candidate will have three or more years’ experience working on technical backpack design and development. This demanding role requires a highly organised and motivated individual with a passion for the outdoors.
Qualifications and skills
The successful candidate will have:
A higher education degree in Design or similar related qualification
Ideally three or more years’ experience working on technical backpack design and development
A strong understanding of the technical backpack market and experience developing backpack ranges with overseas suppliers
Competency in using Adobe software and Microsoft Office programmes
An exceptionally high degree of planning and organisational skills
A strong motivation to succeed
An ability to adapt and problem solve through clear thinking
An enthusiasm for the outdoors
The motivation and ability to work closely within a team
Excellent oral and communication skills
The ability to travel internationally
The successful candidate will be required to:
Work with the Brand Director to research, plan and develop a coherent backpack range
Work closely with the Design & Development Manager to develop new concepts, designs and create products to a strict brief
Competently present ideas and designs within internal meetings
Create technical design specifications and communicate these to overseas suppliers
Ensure product development tracks competently against a strict seasonal timeline
Communicate with vendors and suppliers to source and develop backpack fabrication and trims
Work closely with Garment Technicians to develop fit and styles
Understand existing ranges, manage and track product updates
Implement product testing to ensure premium quality and functionality is always achieved
